Our Christian Church Story
Christ Church Wellington (CCW) a Christian Church began as a small Bible study group in 2018, where three families gathered weekly to open the Scriptures and encourage one another in faith.
Over five years, that little gathering grew into a thriving community of fifteen adults and eleven children and continued to grow. What started as Bible education, quickly blossomed into something deeper, a family, united in Christ.
The need to settle in a church to become part of a broader Wellington community became clear as numbers grew an the community needed a multicultural, Bible-based church to call their own.
For us, it was important to start an English church in a predominantly Afrikaans community as we wanted to create a Christian church where language was not the deciding factor, but rather the desire to reach as many people as possible in Wellington, but also in surrounding areas.
Gospel-believing. Gospel-shaped. To proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ and cultivate a community transformed by His Word.
By God’s grace, the dream became a reality on 4 June 2023, when we held our first Christ Church Wellington service at Hugenote Kollege. And so, our journey as a Christian family church began. Everyone is welcome, and there’s a seat for you at the table.

Pastor Solanga
Pastor Solanga and his wife, Lu, are a gospel-loving couple with hearts for people and a passion for God’s Word. They met while studying theology at George Whitefield College, where their shared love for Jesus became the foundation for their life together.
He has faithfully served as a church pastor at both St. Stephen’s Church in Cape Town and St. James Church in Gqeberha before joining Christ Church Paarl in 2018. From there, the call to plant Christ Church Wellington, South Africa became clear.
Lu is a dedicated primary school teacher and, together with their two young boys, the Solanga family has made Wellington their home, and their mission. As family, they are committed to nurturing Christ Church Wellington from infancy to maturity.
